This series, continued on from Models II (2006), completes the Black Women II (2006) series. It is constituted by three portraits of young women with black or mixed-race skin and with faces that are unusually beautiful and smooth. The artist seems to have applied the same photographic protocol: strong light directed at the subject, black ground, absence of facial expression. We are also made aware of the clichés deployed in numerous artifices, in the disguise-like outfits chosen with a view to drawing the desirable light of Western canons of beauty. What is brought out here is the alienating character of cliché: the desire to be the other.
