This series comprises young chosen “from the catalogue” in various modelling agencies and comprises six photographs of boys and six photographs of girls: parity. These portraits project an aesthetic which brings to mind the avatars that we use to represent ourselves in virtual worlds. This effect of unreality has to do not only with the features of the models, but also with the conceptual and photographic operations carried out by the artist in order to produce effects of meaning. For example, the strong contrast between lit areas and shadowy ones cancels the modelling of the faces and the bodies. It produces a vision without depth, that is almost abstract. The handling of colour, which is deliberately unsaturated, gives the flesh tone a diaphanous, monotone quality against with the eyes and mouth form coloured counterpoints, like artefacts. Finally, the subduing of all expressive elements in the faces helps turn these humans into chimerical beings.
