These photographs of bouquets are worlds away from the strongly sexualised flower imagery or the elegant and vaguely Art Deco forms usually rendered for this kind of subject. This teeming yet curiously detached vision of the object immediately neutralises the clichéd aspects of the theme. The singular aesthetic of these photographs suggests the world of dream by virtue of its diffuse and dynamic, almost weightless structure. While retaining their natural harmony, the flowers assembled here seem to have undergone a kind of radiation that reduces them to the immateriality of the negative image. This photographic mutation of the flesh of the flowers into almost monochrome motifs provokes a subtle confusion of the vegetal elements with their cast shadows in the background, thereby generating an effect of unlimited extension of their form. These dreamlike images thus evoke the original principle of abstraction in painting. They reference its object-less, almost hallucinatory mode of perception.
