This series represents Valérie Belin’s first venture into the genre of the nude. This series is based on the fusion of two types of images: majestic nude shots of Bob (a voluptuous stripper inspired by American pinups of the 30s) and images of places filled with stage scenery. While exemplifying the photographer’s fascination with the world of artifice and show, this series also marks a change in her approach. Here, Belin converts the theatrical essence of the subjects into large images, sorts of archetypes that our gaze is invited to reconstruct as it negotiates the surprises of its journey through a history of styles.
