In this series Valérie Belin addresses the theme of “landscape” for the first time by superimposing photographs taken on the stages of famous Parisian music halls. Never before has a photograph been so far removed from the naturalism generally associated with the idea of landscape. Any reference to the real world is deliberately excluded and nature is valued only as a stage set. The painted views and exotic details represented here, and the bright surfaces, all evoke a magical world. These sets are illusions of a real world, artificial images, enchanting fantasies.
