"Things. A History of Still Lifes": Dialogue between Michel Poivert and Valérie Belin at the Auditorium Michel Laclotte, December 19, 2022, as part of the conference cycle: "The sensitive trace of things".

 

Valérie Belin and Michel Poivert will meet to discuss an essential part of the photographer's aesthetic during an interview and a screening. Do "things" have a particular relationship with the medium of reality? To what iconographic category do they refer?

 

Valérie Belin is a French visual artist. Born in 1964 in Boulogne-Billancourt, she lives and works in Paris. In 1994, she presented a first series of photographs in Paris. Her works are now exhibited worldwide and are part of many public and private collections. Winner of the Prix Pictet in 2015, she was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2017.

 

Michel Poivert is Professor of Art History at the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne where he founded the Chair of History of Photography. He is also an exhibition curator and president of the Collège international de photographie. He has notably published "La photographie contemporaine" (Flammarion 2018), "50 ans de photographie française de 1970 à nos jours" (Textuel 2019) and recently "Contre-culture dans la photographie contemporaine" (Textuel 2022).
